Westminster’s power supplier raises rates

The board of directors of Piedmont Municipal Power Agency, at its meeting yesterday in Greer, voted to raise by 4% the rate it charges for wholesale electric service. Affected is Westminster, one of the member cities of PMPA. Westminster had one vote in the action, cast by Jeff Lord, city administrator. Lord said, “I did vote for it. Not only is this markedly less than previous increases, it also includes investments in efforts to lower the cost of supplemental power in the future.” According to a statement from the 10-member city consortium, “PMPA does not sell electricity at retail, and it will be up to each member city to determine what adjustment, if any, it will make to its retail rates. It should also be noted that, because of several factors, each member city will see a different effect on its rates.” Lord says, “City Council will have to determine what changes are made to the rate our customers pay.”
