Jimmy Watt, heard on the airwaves of 96.3 WGOG for more than a decade, has accepted a position within the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw says Watt, of Seneca, will serve as the Department’s new Public Information Officer. Watt, who has more than 20 years of experience in Upstate media circles, will serve as the Sheriff’s media liaison on issues ranging from public information on crimes to community outreach programs. Watt is well-known throughout the Upstate as the television traffic reporter on WYFF-4, the NBC affiliate in Greenville. Watt also provides daily traffic reports to various radio stations, including WGOG, where he is often the target of comedic barbs from host Kris Butts. “Jimmy has been an excellent sidekick, if you will, popping up once every hour to tell us what’s happening on the roadways, and sometimes having a little fun while doing it,” says Butts, who also broadcasts high school football with Watt each fall. “Jimmy is liked by everyone he meets and he always takes the time to make each individual feel important. He is a consummate professional and will bring that professionalism to the Sheriff’s office and the community.  This is a wonderful choice on the part of our Sheriff,” adds Butts. Watt is also an ordained Southern Baptist minister, who is currently serving as the interim pastor of Mill Shoal Baptist Church in Royston, Georgia. Watt will officially begin his duties with the Sheriff’s Department on February 25.
