What ONS has learned from Japan tsunami

Outages and a lengthy refueling kept Scott Batson on the job 55 straight days at Oconee Nuclear Station. That has been a hard-at-it work schedule for the Pickens native who has the overall responsibility for the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear plant. And that’s why, he said, he can’t answer a question about whether or not it’s true that a wall of radioactive water from Japan is California-coast bound. It was a question that Batson got from a member of the Seneca Rotary Club, as the Oconee Nuclear site vice president addressed the Rotary audience. But there is a specific question of how the plant could withstand an almost unimaginable amount of rainfall in a short period. And, as to the specific matter of whether a dam that towers 365 feet a few miles north of the nuclear station could fail, Batson is addressing that question today on 96.3/WGOG NEWS.
