What’s next after the new Walhalla High?

In a work session last night, the Oconee School Board of Trustees accepted as information a facilities plan, as presented by Dr. Michael Thorsland, assistant superintendent for operations. Thorsland began by announcing that once the new Walhalla High School is completed, administration recommends the district turn its attention to a pair of elementary schools: Ravenel and Fair-Oak. No action was taken, but District Five’s Buddy Herring said, “Looks good to me. Good plan.” In the run-up to those Fair-Oak and Ravenel projects, Thorsland wants to start preliminary work soon. Another project Thorsland recommends is the moving of the bus parking lot from Seneca High School to Blue Ridge Elementary School. The district owns five acres there that had been designated for a new Seneca library, but Thorsland believes library officials have decided against using that property.
