Who should groom Seneca’s public grounds?

Seneca’s leaders are being urged to appropriate money to hire the city’s first horticulturist or to retain a private landscape service. City Administrator Greg Dietterick said it’s time for Seneca to pay more attention to how its public grounds and parks look to the visitor from the outside, and he made the case for one or other during consideration last night of the city’s new budgets. As evidenced by a Memorial Day weekend concert headlined by the rock group Jefferson Starship, Seneca is seeing more and more visitors in its continuous efforts to grow its tourism base. But what those visitors see first, Dietterick said, is how the city cares for its public grounds. And that’s a task, he said, that regular city workers have had to shoulder, in addition to their regular job duties.
