Why the Sheriff opposes marijuana for medical purposes

Oconee Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said today he’s willing to go public with his opposition to state legislation that would allow the use of marijuana for specified medical reasons.  Crenshaw announced his opposition to Senate bill 672 and believes that Walhalla’s two state lawmakers, Senator Alexander and Representative Whitmire, are opposed also.  “This would allow you to go to a doctor and get a medical marijuana card and then go to a dispensary, not a pharmacy, and get two ounces of marijuana.  According to Crenshaw, you can make 16 joints of two ounces of marijuana,” he told today’s meeting of the Walhalla Rotary Club.  And the amount of marijuana you can get is even more if you are deemed to be a caregiver.  While opposed to the legalization, Crenshaw conceded that there are people who believe a marijuana plant does have some medicinal benefit—such as those with epilepsy and glaucoma and other conditions.
