Wildfire closed part of highway 28

By 8 o’clock last night, fire fighters were still trying to stop a fire that forced the closing of part of highway 28 in Rabun County, Georgia—the main road between Walhalla and Highlands.  According to Sky 104 Clayton, the closed part of 28 ran from the Warwoman Road area to Pine Mountain and Kelley Ridge.  Before sunset, two helicopters were used to drop water onto the fire that is consuming between 75 and 100 acres.  The U-S Forest Service says it is continuing to manage several fires in Macon County, North Carolina. Visibility along roads and highways may be limited at times due to smoke and fog. With more people and equipment arriving to fight fires, motorists should exercise caution when driving.
