Winston will miss tonight’s game against Clemson

As reported late Friday night on 96.3 WGOG, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston will sit out the entire game Saturday night when the #1 Seminoles take on #22 Clemson on national television from Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. Winston, last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, was originally suspended for the first half after witnesses reported on Tuesday that he stood atop a table near the FSU University Union and reenacted a popular internet meme which included obscene and derogatory comments about women. The statement to suspend Winston for the entire game, released late Friday and signed by the FSU president and athletic director but not by head coach Jimbo Fisher, raises more questions than it answers. The statement references a “continuing investigation” into the incident, which resulted in benching Winston for the entire game instead of only the first half. ESPN’s Chris Fowler, who will host College GameDay Presented by The Home Depot live from Tallahassee on Saturday, tweeted that the decision contradicts an emphatic statement to him earlier from coach Jimbo Fisher that Winston would play in the final two quarters. Winston, who dismantled Clemson in Death Valley last season as FSU rolled to a 51-14 victory, has led the Seminoles to a perfect 16-0 as a starter. He will be replaced Saturday by redshirt sophomore Sean Maguire for the 8:00 PM kickoff on ABC. Saturday’s game will mark the 5th time in school history Clemson has faced the nation’s #1 team. The Tigers are 0-4 in those previous games, three of which have come against Florida State teams.
