Wishing it were not so in the Adams subdivision

Contractors for Seneca start breaking ground today on a new use for a former school building. Some neighborhood residents wish the project to convert the former Kellett Elementary School into the new Seneca Light and Water complex were not to be. Angela and Harry Hamilton and some of their neighbors in the Adams subdivision are worried that the storage of work trucks, pipe, and transformers and other equipment will devalue their homes. And Angela Hamilton says she and her neighbors believe their rights are being violated. Mayor Dan Alexander admits city officials could have done a better job of communicating their plans to the neighborhood. But, he says, the city is well within its rights legally to adapt the property for a new public use, as the new headquarters for its utilities departments.
