Woman charged with attempted murder

A 38-year old West Union woman has been arrested and charged with attempted murder.  The Sheriff’s Office identifies April Dawn Townsend of Smarty Jones Drive as arrested and charged as the result of a domestic situation Friday afternoon at a home on the Cassidy Bridge Road.  Deputies found a member of Townsend’s family on the floor unresponsive with plastic bags over her head and quote Townsend as telling them she had to release demons and that she was the higher power.  An officer successfully employed CPR on the victim who was taken to the Oconee Memorial Hospital and later to the Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment.  An arrest warrant alleges Townsend restrained the family member and  placed bags around her head that restricted the victim’s airflow.
