Work resumes on Clemson project

SC Department of Transportation has resumed work on the 133-123 intersection project at Clemson. Construction was delayed last year to allow for the design of what the DOT called unforeseen construction items related to the railroad detour track and permanent track alignment to construct a new bridge without impeding railroad operations. According to the DOT’s announcement, first estimates indicated the proposed work would exceed available project funding. But recent coordination with Norfolk Southern, AMTRAK, and the city of Clemson has resulted in reduced anticipated costs. Design work is expected to be completed by next spring, with construction resuming early next summer—pending concurrence by railroad parties.
