Year-end holiday travel

The motor club AAA Carolinas predicts a record number of South Carolians is hitting the highways for the Christmas/New Year’s holiday. The prediction of as many as 1.3 million state residents traveling 50 miles or more on the highways represents an increase of 22 thousand travelers, compared to last year. The 12-day holiday period this year is defined as Saturday, December 21 through Wednesday, January 1—one day longer than the travel period last year. Last year, 21 people were killed on South Carolina roads during the corresponding period. Eight of those who died were not wearing seat belts.
