Youth apprenticeship program

A cutting tools maker, Greenfield Industries, will be recognized during a luncheon tomorrow as the first business in Oconee County to register a formal youth apprentice program through Apprenticeship Carolina.  Richard Blackwell, director of Oconee Economic Alliance, says a partnership between Greenfield and HamiltonCareerCenter will allow four students to become apprentices.  The students benefit from on-the-job training.  They can also look forward to a scalable wage that progresses and a credential from the Department of Labor in their particular occupation.  A youth apprentice program creates a pipeline of high-skilled high school students for Greenfield and other employers.
