$1 million in state money available for Oconee road work

The committee that handles Oconee County’s share of “C” funds, considered farm-to-market roads in South Carolina, has approved $1 million to go to Oconee County’s roads and bridges department. According to Chairman Sam Dickson, $400 thousand of the amount is available now, while $600 thousand is being reserved until the county lets the committee know that it is ready to be used. At a meeting yesterday, Dickson’s colleague Richard Cottingham expressed impatience over the number of county roads that are begging for work. Cottingham sdaid he would not be adverse to pressuring the county to get moving, now that temperatures are rising in time for paving season. Dickson said he will contact County Administrator Scott Moulder.
