A $1.7M return to county road building

A vote by the Oconee County Council next week could send the county back into the business of paving roads.  The council agenda for Tuesday night contains a recommendation that the county award the job of road paving to Hubbard Paving and Grading of Walhalla, in the amount of $1.6 million dollars.  A recommended 10% contingency amount could increase the contract award beyond the figure of $1.7 million.  Mack Kelley, Director of Public Works, is giving the council a list of 37 potential projects that are ranked by a pavement condition index.  According to the rankings a road near Salem, Magpie Lane, is considered to be the closest to nearly impassable.
