A county with a message to spread

Social media, paid radio ads, and newspaper articles are all avenues that Oconee County, from its corner perch in western South Carolina, is using to get its message out. Leaders hope that message will reach those who can make economic development happen—especially the creation of new jobs. And if indications given by the county’s economic development director prove true, several new jobs will be available by the end of the year. For now, however, those projects are code-named to hide the identities of the companies involved. “Project GDA. That’s one that should announce by the end of the year. It’ll be about a $25 to $29 million capital investment and also the addition of about 125 new jobs….We’re also excited about Project Boxer. That’s another one that should be about 100 news jobs and another $23 to $25 million capital investment,” he reported at this morning’s county EDC meeting.
