A date of importance to Sales Tax Commission

Oconee’s Capital Project Sales Tax commissioners are drawing attention to an important day early next year. It’s the date January 15, 2014. Any group wishing to benefit from the proceeds from a one-cent local sales tax will be required by the date to have submitted an official application. The recently appointed commissioners this afternoon held their third meeting. And afterward, we spoke to Chairman Russell Price and Commissioner Glen McPheeters. According to Price and McPheeters, it’ll be the commission’s duty to evaluate the requests and recommend projects to Oconee County Council. The council decides which projects are to appear on the November 2014 ballot, tied to the question of whether the voters are willing to approve an extra penny on the sales tax to pay for them.
