A distinction for which Westminster is proud

Plaudits were given during last night’s meeting of Westminster City Council for a distinction made possible by the work of Fire Chief Chris Smith and his staff.  Westminster has attained a 2-rating from the ISO—the Insurance Services Office.  The capability of fire fighting, as rated by the ISO, is rated 1 to 10—with the lowest number the better.  Smith told the mayor and council last night that the city’s fire protection rating dropped from a 4 to a 2 on November 1.  The lower the rating there’s potential for a lower insurance premium for homeowners.  The 2-rating, Smith said, is the lowest among any Oconee County municipality.  The achievement, made possible by department improvements such as a new truck and additional fire fighters, was applauded by both Mayor Rick McCormick and by City Administrator Jeff Lord.
