A “generous” donation

The Oconee Chapter of the American Red Cross expressed its gratitude this week for a donation of $2,750 dollars from the Oconee County Council. As Kathy Rogers, the executive director, put it the donation will help the chapter get back on its feet after this summer’s multi-day response to the drowning of a Tennessee man in the Chattooga River. Rogers expressed personal thanks to Councilman Wayne McCall, chairman of the law enforcement and public safety committee, for his interest and concern regarding Red Cross’s financial hardship. In a letter Monday to McCall, Rogers wrote, “We are so fortunate to have such a caring individual such as you serving on our County Council.” The assistance provided last month as responders searched and eventually found the body of Michael Thomas Dorris, according to Rogers, forced her office to re-stock items such as powdered Gatorade, cups, napkins, trash bags and snacks.
