A Walhalla hearing for “Hope in the Future” project

Christ Central Ministries’ plans to use the old Oconee jail will entail a change of occupancy that the Walhalla zoning administrator says requires approval from the city Board of Zoning Appeals.  And James Ashton, the zoning administrator, confirmed today that the board will consider the change of occupancy during a public hearing the evening of Thursday, December 3.  The hearing takes place at 5:30 at City Hall.  Officials say a component of CCM’s “Hope in the Future” project is a homeless shelter, and Ashton says that’s the component necessitating the change of occupancy.  Christ Central Ministries’ seeks to try to help rehabilitate criminal offenders once they complete their sentences for the purpose of giving them direction and help to find work and become productive citizens.
