Accident UPDATE

New reports indicate the S.C. 59 accident injured three people and has required the temporary closing of the two-lane highway in Earles Grove community. One county responder said one of the injured was taken to a trauma center.  The impact resulted in one of the two vehicles involved, a mail truck, spilling mail across the road. Oconee Fire Chief Charlie King said the highway will remain closed, while the local postmaster collects the mail.  Motorists should avoid the area and take alternate routes in the area.  Responders discovered one person ejected from one of the vehicles.  S.C. highway trooper Billy Elder said the accident occurred as the mail carrier’s vehicle slowed down on S.C. 59 and was struck from the rear by the driver of a Volkswagon Jetta.  The accident was reported at 1:24 p-m and is being investigated by state troopers.
