African bees destroyed in Charleston

A colony of Africanized honey bees has been destroyed in Charleston County.  Those bees were the first of their type to be found in South Carolina in 15 years.  The Department of Plant Industry of Clemson University discovered the Africanized honey bees in a routine survey.  That survey is part of the agency’s charge to protect state beekeepers and the rest of South Carolinian’s population from possible disease or parasite outbreak.  Inspector Brad Cavin said, “This appears just to be a localized incident….”
