Airport may seek 1% funding

The Oconee County Airport may be an applicant to share in potential one percent sales tax money. At a meeting last night, the county aeronautics commissioners again discussed the possibility of making application to the county Capital Project Sales Tax Commission by the January deadline. Airport manager Kevin Short says the airport would be interested in proceeds from a countywide sales tax to pay for additional hangars at the airport. The airport now has hangar space for 48 planes. But Short says the airport has a waiting list for 50 more. The tax would require favorable countywide vote during a General Election referendum.
