Appears to be no foul play, Crenshaw says

The Oconee Sheriff says, “At this time, there does not appear to be any foul play in Mr. Smalley Jr’s death and Coroner Addis has ruled this death to be natural….”  Sheriff Crenshaw issued the statement regarding the death of Seneca resident Ernest Lee Smalley Jr.  The 33-year old Smalley was booked into the Detention Center Friday on a Family Court warrant.  “Mr. Smalley Jr. was in a holding cell at the Detention Center when he was discovered by Correctional Officers to be unconscious and unresponsive Monday afternoon,” says Crenshaw.  “The facility nurse and officers started CPR.  EMS responded and personnel were able to resuscitate Mr. Smalley.  He was transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital for further treatment and later to Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died on Tuesday evening.”  The death is being investigated by SLED, as well as the Walhalla Police Department.
