Assault alleged in front of church

A Greenville woman has been ordered to court in Walhalla to answer a charge that she caused a cut and swelling over the eye of an elderly woman at the entrance to a church near West Union.  Marie Renae Davis, 51, was arrested and charged by the Oconee Sheriff’s Office with assault and battery third degree.  In a report filed with the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Justin Minyard said he witnessed a disturbance late Wednesday afternoon on Cornerstone Drive in the Poplar Springs Community.  Davis has been assigned a March 11 court appearance in Magistrate’s Court.
