Assault on jail guards by inmate

An altercation between an Oconee inmate and correctional officers prompted a lockdown late yesterday afternoon of the entire jail population. The incident occurred in one of the male units housing 16 pre-sentenced inmates, but was de-escalated in about 30 minutes and all inmates were secure and back in their cells within a half hour.  By the 8 o’clock hour last night, according to the Sheriff’s Office, there was no word on the seriousness of injuries.  Those hurt were treated by paramedics.  Two prisoners and two prison guards were taken to the Oconee Memorial Hospital.  “Our detention officers and law enforcement personnel train for situations such as this and within about 30 minutes, the staff was able to de-escalate the situation and take back control of the unit,” says Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw.
