Backhoe rodeo winners

A city of Clemson employee, David Chastain, won first place yesterday in the Larry Brooks Memorial Backhoe Rodeo. Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority employee Johnny Ellenburg placed second. Doug Sterling of Seneca Light and Water finished third. The tournament, held at the Kellett complex in Seneca, was named for Larry Brooks, a Seneca Light and Water employee since 1989. A traffic accident took Brooks’ life in March of this year. Bob Faires, utilities superintendent, said the event was fitting tribute to Brooks, who himself often won many of the competitions that he competed in, such as fishing, table tennis, softball, golf, and backhoe rodeos. Yesterday’s tourney raised $455 for the Collins Children’s Home.
