Baseball Owners Approve Sale of Padres

Major League Baseball owners voted yesterday (August 16th) to approve the sale of the San Diego Padres to a group that includes Kevin and Brian O’Malley, the sons of former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Peter O’Malley. Golfer Phil Mickelson is also part of the group, will will buy the franchise from owner John Moores for some $800 million. The O’Malley brothers are grandsons of the late Walter O’Malley, who broke all of Brooklyn’s heart when he moved the Dodgers to L.A. before the 1958 season. Peter O’Malley eventually took over for his father and the family kept ownership until selling the team in 1998.
