Beauty pageant is an Apple Festival tradition

The crowning of an Apple Queen is a highlight of the week that Oconee County celebrates the apple crop in the Westminster, Holly Springs, Long Creek, and Mountain Rest areas.  This year is no exception.  The reigning queen, Savannah Kelley, and Apple Festival promoter Janice Matheson promoted this year’s pageant on the Kris Butts’ morning show.  The 2017 pageant will be 6 o’clock Saturday evening, August 26 at West-Oak High School.  Contestant applications are being accepted at www.scapplefestival.com.  The 2016 queen, Kelley, recommends young women consider competing.  The experience does for a young woman’s confidence and the $500 scholarship can help pay college book costs.
