Boating season on the Upper Chattooga

Boating season begins today and runs through April 30 on the Upper Chattooga Wild and Scenic River corridor within the Nantahala Ranger District.  Paddling is allowed only on this river section on days after flows reach 350 cfs or greater at the USGS Burrells Ford Gage and only during daylight hours.  According to the U-S Forest Service, all boaters are required to self-register by acquiring a permit which is free.  The permits are available at the registration boards located on the trails leading to the river access points.
