Body identified

The body found by a hunter this morning near Seneca has been identified as a 40-year old Friendship community man, last seen Saturday night in the vicinity of a nearby motorcycle accident. Coroner Karl Addis said the body of Douglas Odell Chapman Jr. showed no obvious fatal injuries. An autopsy takes place tomorrow morning. Both Addis and the Oconee Sheriff’s Department are investigating the death. The coroner quotes a family member as saying Chapman was not involved in the motorcycle accident, but had gone to the scene of Saturday night’s accident to be of assistance. According to Addis, Chapman fled into the woods reportedly when “he saw the blue lights of law enforcement vehicles.” Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said a missing person report was filed yesterday.
