Bogus bills turn up in Walhalla and West Union

Fake currency has turned up in Walhalla and West Union, and the Oconee Sheriff’s Department is investigating. The first incident occurred last Saturday in Walhalla when a woman who was in the process of selling a piece of furniture discovered the intended buyer had left her with a counterfeit $20 bill. Jimmy Watt, spokesman for the sheriff’s department, said the other fake bills were passed two days later, on Monday, at the Dollar General store and at the McDonald’s Restaurant. According to Watt, the counterfeit bills are now evidence as part of the investigation.
