Callers threaten “to destroy” Seneca

The aftermath of the shooting death of a young man in Seneca has taken an even darker turn.  After a policeman shot dead Zachary Hammond in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant, the city has received numerous inquiries—some of them from callers who falsely claim to be members of the media.  According to the city’s latest newsletter, the callers in those instances scream at whoever answers the phone.  The newsletter states:  “There have been death threats in the form of late-night phone calls and emails as well.  A majority of these are from people located out of state with no knowledge of the case, but promise ‘to destroy’ the City of Seneca.  These calls and emails are continuous and come in unpredictable waves.”  According to Seneca, these kinds of calls are another reason the city now employs a professional public relations firm.
