Campers flock to Oconee County’s parks

During the government year that ended June 30, Oconee’s three county parks registered a whopping 29-hundred increase in campsite rentals.  The numbers translate to a 32% overall increase.  South Cove near Seneca accounts for the largest increase.  The surge means nearly $71,000 more in direct revenue.  Phil Shirley, the director of parks, recreation and tourism, credits enrollment in the nationwide Reserve America reservation  system in which campers go online to make reservations.  The South Cove Park on Lake Keowee has seen recent enhancements, and Shirley wants to spend accommodations tax money for more work there.
