Center stage for council candidates

The final candidates’ forum of Oconee’s primary season staged last night and drew nearly 50 people to the Westminster Music Hall.  Featured were the men and woman running for Seats 4 and 5 on the Oconee County Council.  Eight prepared questions were presented by the forum moderator Wayne Morton on behalf of the Westminster Chamber of Commerce.  The candidates responded in between opening and closing statements.  There were also a few questions from the audience.  Perhaps the surprise question of the night came near the end when the candidates were asked to predict whether they would be the endorsement choice of The Journal, which one candidate said is expected to make known its endorsements in an editorial to be published tomorrow.  A couple of the candidates said no way are they the newspaper’s choice to serve.  Others steered away from directly answering the question.  We’ll have their responses to that question today on 101.7/WGOG NEWS.
