Chase from Walhalla to Salem ends with arrest

A police chase from the Walhalla area to the Salem area ended with the arrest of the driver and four charges filed.  The chase yesterday afternoon over nearly 18 and a half miles started in the vicinity of SC 28/the Highlands Highway at Playground Road covered several rural roads and ended on the Choehee Valley Road when stop sticks laid down by a deputy sheriff tore apart the tires of the pursued mini-van.  According to officer Judson Minyard, the driver jumped out of the van, jumped over a guardrail, ran through briar patches and crossed a creek.  Minyard said he fired a taser cartridge to subdue the suspect.  The Sheriff’s Office announced the following charges filed:  failure to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension, operating an uninsured vehicle, and public disorderly conduct.
