Chattooga River accident

A National Guard Black Hawk helicopter was deployed Saturday afternoon to effect a rescue on the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River.  The chopper swooped down above the Lick Log/Pig Pen section north of Village Creek to lift a young Atlanta area man who tried to swing a rope into the river, fell short, and landed on a rocky bank.  The injured man was part of a group of river adventurers.  He is believed to have suffered a back injury and was eventually sent to Emory University Hospital in his home area.  Charlie Vissage, Mountain Rest fire chief, says there was a three-state response to the accident–including personnel from Rabun County, Georgia and the Cashers-Glenville area of North Carolina.
