City councils vote on $610K payment

Two city councils cast votes last night against the idea of releasing Oconee County from its annual obligation to pay the Joint Regional Sewer Authority $610 thousand a year. The city councils in Walhalla and Westminster, during their regular December meetings, convened open meetings following executive sessions to officially respond to JRSA resolution 2013-22. In each instance, the vote was unanimous against rescinding an agreement that requires the annual payments for about the next 25 years. Two weeks ago, the JRSA commissioners posed the proposition to the member cities after Seneca’s Greg Dietterick made a case in favor of allowing the county to spend the money itself for sewer purposes. Dietterick gave the Golden Corner Commerce Park sewer line project as an example.
