Clemson and Hipps family issue statement

A statement this morning from Clemson University and the family of Tucker Hipps, the student killed nearly three years ago in a mysterious fall from the SC 93 bridge during a pre-dawn fraternity run.  According to the statement, the 2016-17 year saw a substantial decrease in major charges and violations of the student code of conduct as it applies to fraternity members.  The university credits the family as instrumental in the passage of the Tucker Hipps Transparency Act that requires colleges and universities to post information on their websites detailing fraternity and sorority student organization misconduct.  Before Tucker Hipps’ death, according to the statement, the university had begun changes to its Greek system to improve the experience for our students.  After Tucker’s death the University accelerated its efforts and made additional substantial changes to the system–including increasing new member education on hazing, alcohol, and sexual misconduct.  The Clemson and Hipps statement comes following reports that the family is settling its civil lawsuits.
