Commercial development project in the works at Seneca

A new commercial development cleared a hurdle last night in Seneca.  But for now, exactly what’s to be built on nearly two and three-quarter acres adjoining Lake Keowee at By-Pass 123 remains a mystery.  As he was leaving City Hall, a representative of the property owner would not say what’s to be built at 716 By-Pass 123 on both sides of Northwest Drive, a private drive. But John Adams parting words for the board of zoning appeals amounted to a prediction that the city is going to be very happy about what’s built there.  The board of zoning appeals last night hesitated before approving a variance to the front setback which means the developer may build as close as ten feet from the property line.  Adams, representing property owner Kishyam, a Clemson LLC, gave few details as to what’s envisioned for the highway commercial zone property.  He said there are to be buildings on both sides of Northwest Drive.  Part of the property includes a deep slope toward the lake and has been the subject of failed development attempts in past years.
