Contract issued to build roundabout

An Oconee County road builder gets the job to build the county’s first roundabout of modern times.  To convert Wells Highway where it meets Strawberry Farm and Mormon Church roads near Seneca into a roundabout intersection the contract goes to Thrift Development.  According to Josh Makison, resident construction engineer for the DOT, the state will play Thrift Development $963 thousand for the job.  Makison is hopeful construction can begin soon.  Delays that are typical with work of this kind could delay the April 30, 2016 project completion date.  Makison says the plan will be to keep the intersection open at all times while the work is underway.
