Counterclaims for two council members tossed

A circuit judge has dismissed the counterclaims that two Oconee County Council members filed last summer against David Stokes, former director of the building codes department.  At the same time, however, Judge Letitia Verdin decided the allegations by Edda Cammick and Wayne McCall in the counterclaims may be kept by their side as they defend themselves from the Stokes lawsuit which alleges slander and wrongful termination.  Verdin heard pre-trial motions in the case last week at Walhalla.  The Cammick-McCall side claims Stokes is pursuing a frivolous lawsuit and is guilty of ulterior motives.  According to a court officer, a trial date has yet to be set.
