County Council moves to wipe out tax hike

Joel Thrift, the District Four member of Oconee County Council, complimented two of his colleagues last night for finding ways to save and adopt a new budget that eliminates the need for a general tax increase.  Both District One’s Edda Cammick and District Five’s Reg Dexter proposed cuts to the budget offered by County Administrator Scott Moulder that recommend adding 2-point-1 mills to the tax rate.  Dexter’s idea include postponing purchase of the $700 thousand dollar piece of property that would become a permanent home for the Foothills Heritage Fair and Cammick recommended the county hold up a $446 thousand dollar payment toward a Tri-County Technical College building project.
