Death at a home building site

The name of a Pickens County man who died yesterday at a home construction job near Salem is to be released today—once Oconee Coroner Karl Addis has additional time to locate and notify family members. So far, Addis has described the deceased as a 56-year old Central resident who worked as a self-employed painter. He died yesterday afternoon at 156 Blue Water Lane near the Oconee-Pickens line. At 1:31 yesterday afternoon, 9-1-1 was alerted to a report of a man who had fallen from a scaffold. According to the coroner, the painter fell from a ladder that leaned against a wall atop the scaffold. He then fell down a stairwell to the main floor level—a distance of 22 to 24 feet. Autopsy results are to be released this afternoon.
