Defendant found not guilty

An Oconee jury found the defendant not guilty this afternoon on both charges. Melissa Dawn Ramey walked speedily out of the courtroom, proclaiming her innocence and faith in the judicial system. The jury found the 37-year old woman not guilty of grand larceny and burglary at a Long Creek farm caretaker’s home in 2011. Ramey paused long enough to tell 96.3/WGOG NEWS: “This is the first time anyone has heard from me, today, thanks to that jury in there. I was not questioned. I was not asked anything. I was presumed guilty.” In court this week, Ramey testified in her defense. The jury heard testimony that a green truck leaving the area of the crime was driven by a male, but the testimony did not identify Ramey or anyone else in the vehicle.
