Defining rustic elegance

A corridor plan received third highest priority among short term goals of the Oconee County Council.  But members of the council’s advisory planning commission are uncomfortable with the idea of making specific recommendations for the kinds of things a major corridor should embrace until they are clear with the term rustic elegance.  Commissioners last night pressed staff member Josh Stephens to reduce to writing exactly what rustic elegance should mean, and he accepted the task.  The deputy director of community development, Stephens last night presented a plan to incorporate Appalachian rustic elegance themes into three corridors leading into the county:  SC 59 from Seneca to Fair Play; U-S 123 from Seneca to the Seneca River Bridge; and Oconee County’s stretch of Highway 11, officially called the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway.
