Deliverance director’s son returns to river

Charley Boorman pulled into Long Creek and Wildwater outfitters Friday afternoon on a motorcycle, as part of a sentimental and professional return to Chattooga River. For it was at the river that Boorman, as a child, had a bit role in the movie Deliverance, the movie produced and directed by Boorman’s father, John. In spite of the high flows in the Wild and Scenic River and the tragedy of its latest drowning, it was Boorman’s hope to canoe the river, in tandem with a film crew for a documentary to air in 2014 in Boorman’s native Great Britain. Charley Boorman’s return allowed him a reunion with Charlie Wiggin, the man who taught Burt Reynolds and other cast members how to canoe the river.
