Democrats come out swinging

Oconee Democrats threw haymakers on Saturday at their rival party.  But time will tell whether any of the figurative upper cuts make their mark.  Fifty-eight county Democrats gathered at Seneca for their convention to hear speakers, pass resolutions, and elect officers—in preparation for the state party convention this year.  Without naming Donald Trump, the Democrats came out swinging against the man with the wide lead to become the GOP nominee for President.  They also decried Republican Party beliefs and ideals and touted their party as the party of the common person.  Justin Smith, a Clemson University senior, conceded that although his party has held the White House for two terms, the Democratic Party has its troubles in the South.  Smith said Democrats should take pride in who they are and to remember they are the defenders of Social Security and Medicare.  One of the many resolutions Oconee Democrats passed on Saturday calls for South Carolina to expand coverage for those eligible for Medicaid.
