District to comply to request for salary information

Oconee school trustees were told last night that soon the salaries of district employees will appear in the newspaper.  Dr. Michael Thorsland, superintendent, announced the district is complying with the Journal’s Freedom of Information request.  He noted the state Freedom of Information law allows for the release of specific employee salaries who earn $50 thousand and higher, but said that, for the public’s right to know, he’s OK with the request.  Thorsland expressed the hope that the paper attaches the salaries to positions, not individuals by name.
