Exception made for Mtn. Rest tower

A communications cell tower is coming to Mountain Rest. The Oconee Board of Zoning Appeals gave final approval last night to zoning changes that’ll allow a 260-foot tower at highway 28 and Morehead Place Road. At that height, the top of the tower will require a light to satisfy the FAA. And the Oconee appeals board stipulates there shall be a 10-foot lightning rod at the top, also. Josh Stephens, zoning administrator, said the appeals board’s votes were 7-0 to grant an exception and the necessary zoning variances.
